EMPOWER VETERANS AND FAMILIES OF FALLEN HEROES TO DEVELOP CHARACTER IN FUTURE GENERATIONS
Veterans and families of the fallen often feel isolated post-service, with over 20 of our nation’s heroes dying by suicide each day. TMF takes a proactive approach by addressing root causes including isolation and finding renewed purpose. Our programs focus first on investing in veterans and families of the fallen to improve their mental health and well-being. Then, we provide veterans and survivors opportunities to lead—from mentoring local youth to uniting communities to honor the fallen.
Marine Corps 1stLt Travis Manion gave the ultimate sacrifice on April 29, 2007, on his second deployment to Iraq. While on patrol searching for a suspected insurgent house in Fallujah, Travis, his fellow Marines, and Iraqi Army counterparts were ambushed. Travis led a counterattack against enemy forces, drawing fire away from his wounded comrades and allowing every member of his patrol to survive. For his actions, he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Valor. Today, over 300,000 Spartans nationwide carry forward the legacy of fallen heroes like Travis by leading with character and living out the “If Not Me, Then Who…” ethos.
Powered by Under Armour Freedom, Character Does Matter (CDM) is a youth mentorship program led by veterans and families of the fallen volunteers that helps develop character and leadership skills in young adults. To date, over 650,000 youth have learned from our nation’s heroes what it means to lead with character - in and outside of the classroom.

Our proprietary 7-month Spartan Leadership Program (SLP) offers a life-changing path for veterans and families of fallen heroes to connect passion with purpose, and leverage their own experiences to develop themselves as leaders. Through virtual and in-person learning, SLP offers a unique journey of self-development and growth to help them create meaningful change in communities.

Survivor Expeditions are unique, service-based trips designed specifically for family members of fallen heroes. These 4-7 day trips offer survivors an opportunity to connect with others who understand their loss while honoring their loved ones through service. Each experience offers participants a chance to find community, engage in critical personal development, and carry on their hero’s legacy of service.
