Spartan Spotlight: TMF Veteran Mentor Shannon Kelly's Inspiring Journey of Service and Mentorship through Johnson & Johnson

Navy Veteran Shannon Kelly's journey from pilot to healthcare professional exemplifies the profound impact veterans can have in civilian roles. After serving as an Aircraft Commander, Mission Commander, and functional check pilot for the P-3C and EP-3E aircraft, Shannon transitioned into the healthcare sector, where she now excels as an Orthopaedic Account Director at Johnson & Johnson (J&J).

In her current role, Shannon leverages the discipline, leadership, and adaptability she cultivated during her military service to navigate the complexities of the healthcare industry. She also serves as a leader of the Veteran Leadership Council, a J&J employee business resource group, focused on empowering, supporting, and caring for the company’s military-connected community.

Shannon’s story was recently highlighted in G.I. Jobs magazine and an accompanying video interview, where she discussed her transition from military service to a thriving career in healthcare. The feature also shed light on her professional and personal work with TMF, emphasizing her commitment to empowering fellow veterans and making a positive impact in her community. A TMF Veteran Mentor and graduate of the Spartan Leadership Program, she leads Character Does Matter (CDM) powered by Under Armour curriculum that instills values such as integrity, courage, and leadership in our nation’s youth. CDM not only provides a life-changing benefit to youth, but also provides veterans with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging.

As a lead for the TMF Chapter in Columbia River, OR, Shannon spreads awareness of the “If Not Me, Then Who…” movement and creates opportunities for her community to engage and unite through Operation Legacy service projects. In April, the Columbia River Chapter will tackle the Manion WOD at Stronger Clackamas. In May, the Chapter will lead The Honor Project at Willamette National Cemetery to honor the service and sacrifice of fallen heroes.

Shannon Kelly's journey is a testament to the enduring spirit of service that many veterans embody. By applying her military experience to her civilian career and volunteer efforts, she continues to lead, inspire, and make a difference in the lives of others.

TMF’s flagship youth mentorship program, Character Does Matter, remains a central component of the partnership between J&J and TMF. Through the program, trained veterans and families of the fallen serve as mentors to youth, inspiring character in the next generation through engaging, hands-on activities.
