Lieutenant Raul D. Jimenez died in a training mission when a T-34C Turbomentor crashed in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 27, 2006. Lt. Jimenez attended Brazosport High School; he was part of the football team, the baseball team, the band, and student council. He graduated 7th in his class in 1993. Lt. Jimenez was recommended by then Congressman Greg Laughlin for the United States Naval Academy from which he graduated in 1998, with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. Lt. Jimenez then married in July 2004.

He is survived by his wife and his mother. “He loved the service and flying,” his mother, Elva Verrett, told The Facts. “The Lord blessed me with a real special son. That was his dream. That was always his dream. I was so proud of him because he accomplished what he always wanted in his life.”

LT Jimenez was honored through the Travis Manion Foundation Character Does Matter program presented during the USNA’s Summer Seminar and USNA STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Camp for rising 11th graders.
